The Church of Sodom and Gomorrah

The breakup of the United Methodist Church into two separate theologies is happening as you read this article. Methodists derive their practice and belief from the life and teachings of John Wesley, so many call this Wesleyan theology. One side of this split has most of the power and the other side is composed of the believers in biblical truth. The powerful side I will rename, ‘The Church of Sodom and Gomorrah’ (S and G) and the other I’ll name ‘The Way’. The S and G are responsible for this split simply because they want to recognize the homosexual lifestyle as normal and ‘The Way’ will not. The S and G thinks being inclusive and loving equals accepting modern day lifestyles that God calls evil. The Way believes it is essential to depend totally on biblical truth.

This is the simple explanation for the split and if you don’t know which side you are on, read the first chapter of Romans and make your decision. Verse 22 says, “Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.” Then verse 24 to 27 says: “Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator… Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.” Then in Verse 28 it says, “Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.” In Genesis 19:6-7 (NIV), before the Law of Moses, Lot expressed God’s moral law when he said, while trying to keep the angels from being sodomized, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing.” 2 Peter 2:7 then confirms this, “…righteous Lot, was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked.” Finally in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV), “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Leaders of the S and G Church, when asked to support their position on condoning the homosexual lifestyle give no biblical support for their point of view. They are vague in explanations and many answer with a question like: “What has happened to true Wesleyan thought? There is no reason why ‘people of any thought’ cannot attend and govern the United Methodist Church. Judgment, after all, belongs to God and not to congregational members, bishops, or pastors. Each member in these categories can lead people to Christ and then nurture and teach the word of God.” This sounds like Satan speaking with Eve, where what he said was half true, and half lie. Yes, any person of thought can attend but any person of thought cannot hold a position of authority within the church. This points to their biblical apostasy, because they are not referring to people in authority called by God, or those who have to be reconciled to God before serving in positions of authority. No one attending a church can be identified in Romans 1 and serve in leadership No, this cult of thought is following their own interpretation of Wesleyan thought trying to deny biblical truth regarding the sin of homosexuality, and sexual prevision as identified in a multitude of biblical scriptures from Genesis to Revelations.

Once we become Christian and commit to follow Jesus Christ, we understand that Christ was with God from the beginning and made all things (John 1). Also, as a reconciled believer of Christ we have stepped over a line, and made a covenant with Christ, the Son of God. Therefore, our contract has no opt-out clause unless we deny God who made all things. Opting out is denying the word of God by teaching falsehoods. In John 14:23-24 (NKJV), “Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father who sent Me.” When those who think they are Christian do not keep Christ’s word, they have shown they are not committed to Christ. They may have been polluted with unbiblical amoral junk. God calls this a debased mind. This rubbish can come from many sources; sadly from inside the church, including clergy and teachers, and outside from secular education, anti-Christ movies, and our own faulty self-serving reasoning, etc. One way or the other, this anti-biblical mentality is birthed in a mind and soul that “Most assuredly, is not born again, and cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3 paraphrased). 2 Corinthians 11:13 (NIV), describes the leadership of the S and G church that “such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ.” This makes them traitors to the word of God.

Christians know we need to honor the word of God. We cannot murder because the word of God says we cannot. We cannot commit sexual immorality because the same word tells us we cannot. We cannot cut and paste the word of truth and put it into our own book and call it God’s truth, because it is not. Cutting and pasting is an apostasy. In 1 Timothy 4:1-2 (NIV) it states, “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.” The proof of this happening is the S and G Church is obviously encouraging acts of the sinful nature: sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, and orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21- NIV paraphrased).

1 Timothy 1:5-7 (NKJV) further describes the S and G leadership; “…desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.” Then 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NIV) further exposes those who follow the S and G leadership:  “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

What happens to these people who “suit their own desires”? This is explained in Luke 12:46 (NKJV) “…the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.”

Additionally, consider Matthew 25:14-30 where Christ tells the story of the Ten Talents. In verse 29-30 reveals the result for the unprofitable servant. “For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Then in Luke 19:11-27 Christ explains the parable of the ten minas. In verse 22 Christ relates the failure of a servant, “His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow?” The penalty for Christians who “suit their own desires,” is they become wicked servants that are cut in half and cast into the outer darkness of hell.

If you belong to the United Methodist Church what should you do? If you follow the S and G leadership Matthew 15:14 (NIV) pertains to you: “If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” But if you want to stand for “the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6) you must put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20). Then use your armor and stand against and obstruct this evil. If the S and G prevail, flee; “Flee sexual immorality. (Flee this church) Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18).

Christ’s blessed liberty gives us choices, we can travel to light and represent the light or dwell in darkness. Choose wisely. Your eternal life depends on it.
