CAN AMERICA’S GOVERNMENT EXIST IF THE CHURCH IS SEPARATED FROM STATE?

It is an historical fact that the Judeo-Christian belief system was responsible for the principles of our founding fathers who signed America’s Declaration of Independence and created the U.S. Constitution.  So the question is: could any other belief system have created America?

 

America’s Declaration states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” This terminology comes from a belief system that does not exist in the foundational beliefs of any other religion. In Hinduism no one is created equal. Islam has no unalienable rights. Buddhism, the goal is the elimination of desires through enlightenment and has no concept of God-given rights. Naturalism, which is all other human made religions: atheism, secularism, humanism, and progressivism today, could never use the terminology, “endowed by our Creator” because none of these anti-God religions believe in a Creator. 

 

Until the existence of America, most of the people in the world had to live under the State’s power and control over the people’s religious consciences. The people had no God-given rights because the head of State dictated their rights. This is why the Jewish people have been persecuted and Christians were fed to lions: they dared to have a different religious view than the government. England, for hundreds of years, could change the authorized religion when a new sovereign King was crowned. The King had absolute dominion over religion and if the people did not align their beliefs with their sovereign, they would be imprisoned, tortured, and executed. This persecution is why the pilgrims fled to America. They were escaping religious persecution to gain the ability to live and worship God according to the dictates of their consciences, and to have the freedom of speech to express their Christian views in public.

 

The reason freedom of religion is stated first before freedom of speech in the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution comes from the experience of the pilgrims. Every person has a religion, or a belief system, and a right of conscience, and secondly, they cannot express their right of conscience without freedom of speech. The 1st Amendment ensures everyone can honor their own conscience by guaranteeing freedom of expression; by prohibiting Congress, the State, from restricting the rights of individuals to speak their mind.

 

Thomas Jefferson, the writer of the America’s Declaration, said in 1801: "...I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." Thomas Jefferson understood freedom of religion, and speech is the freedom that releases the mind of man from the tyranny of the State. This is why the U.S. Constitution enshrines the freedom of religion and free speech, and creates a contract between the people and the government to protect it.

 

President Lincoln wrote in his Gettysburg address, “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” President Lincoln was recognizing the people are the head of America’s government, and that the assurance of liberty was established ‘under God’ in America’s Declaration of Independence, written into the foundation of America’s government, the U.S. Constitution.

 

The opposite of America’s concept of government is exposed in religions like Islam and governmental ‘isms’ like Socialism, Communism, and Fascism. They were all birthed from man’s innate hunger for power and control over others. Please note: when ‘ism’ is added to the end of a word, it changes the meaning to a distinctive practice, system, or philosophy, typically birthed in a political ideology, of which fascism is the most repressive.

 

Stalin-- an atheist-- sponsored communism, (which is totalitarianism) and killed millions of his own people. One constant theme of totalitarianism is Judeo-Christian persecution, naming them "enemies of the State.” Mussolini, the father of Fascism (another form of totalitarianism), said, “The Fascist doctrine is the conception of the State, of its essence, its functions, and its aims. For Fascism, the State is absolute, individuals, and groups, relative.” This means the State is the absolute (God), and the people are subservient.

 

Adolph Hitler established the Nationalist–Socialist government, called Nazism and made Jews, Christians, and others, enemies of State-- and killed millions. He said, "Politics do not belong in the Church" and "The Church must be separate from the State." Hitler wanted to keep religion out of politics for the same reason all secular ideologies want to separate Church from State. They rightly believe the Christian religion would impose a moral standard that would prevent them from their evil designs. So Hitler separated and isolated religion and attempted to gain absolute control over the peoples’ bodies and minds.

 

Today’s Communist China has definitely separated Church from State. They are imprisoning, torturing, and executing Christians who try to live and worship God according to the dictates of their consciences. Notice totalitarian governments dominate their citizen’s choice of personal beliefs, but the polar opposite is true with America’s government founded on ‘Judeo – Christian’ principles. America’s founding fathers created a Constitutional Republic which is run by representatives of the people, for the people. Therefore, the purpose of the 1st Amendment is to protect people of faith from government, not to protect the government from people of faith. The people are empowered by their liberty to exercise freedom of thought, which is the ability to champion our individual beliefs in the public square of opinion.

Unbelievably, in America today the majority of clergy support the separation of politics from the Church. There desperate attempt is to silence anything political from their pulpits. They seem devoid of the judgement that comes from the knowledge that all freedom and liberty come through Christ. (Galatians 5) They must have forgotten that “Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2Cor 3:17) Unknowingly (or maybe knowingly), these clergies lack the judgement necessary to understand silence in the face of evil is supporting the ideology of evil principalities. Ecclesiastes 3:16 says, “In the place of judgment, Wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, Iniquity was there.” When shepherds and the body of Christ fail to speak Christ’s truth and thereby fail to influence the public square of opinion, wickedness and iniquity prevail.

 

Today Christians are being forced by law to deny their own faith and validate that which the Bible condemns. This is clear and present proof that the forces of darkness in America want to crush anyone who cherishes life, liberty and upholds biblical principles. The clergy of the lukewarm Churches are assisting evil in the destruction of their freedom to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in America. This can only happen in a Church that doesn’t truly believe Jesus is their Lord and Savior. Christ’s absolute, uncompromising Truth needs to supersede their earthly concerns. They seem to have missed the teaching that our eternal destiny depends on what we do with Christ’s message. This seems unbelievable and impossible, but it is true. Every real Christian should know we are compelled to testify Christ’s truth into every kind of darkness, especially the political sphere, or He will deny us before God. (Matthew 10:32-34) Make no mistake, God will not hold them guiltless!

 

Regressive ideologies in America today are supported by the secular left who remarkably call themselves ‘Progressives’. God referred to this duplicity when He said, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20) Regressives seek to control the individual’s liberty of conscience by working to separate the “Blessings of liberty” from the U.S. Constitution. Their joy would be to gain control “over the mind of man” and stomp Christianity out of the public square. This is the real foundational reason progressives, who control and sponsor the Democrat Party, want to separate the Church from the state. If they are successful, freedom of religion and speech will vanish and America will become just another ‘ism’ in a world of regressive-isms.
